I've been messing with the Godot Engine for the past week and have been thoroughly impressed with it (granted I've never done any gamedev before so I have absolutely nothing to compare it to).
That being said I followed two tutorials1 to get a hang of the engine and am now working on a simple ARPG game.
So far the hardest part has definitely been the artwork so I decided I'd use Kenney's assets while I learn pixel art.
For making pixel art I've been using the open-source Pixelorama which is actually built with the Godot engine.
All in all it seems like a great project with lots of traction and I'm excited to keep diving into gamedev.
1HeartBeast ARPG and jmbiv Top Down Shooter. Both fantastic and I would highly recommend them.
